Prior to coming to the UK, Martin was for over 10 years a Research Assistant at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).
Educated at the University of Nairobi, Adult Education and Community Development 1998 from where he obtained a scholarship to study at the University of Manchester for a Master’s in Education (the field of Adult Education and Community based development and completed in (2001). His Further Professional training was @ University of Huddersfield, for Post Graduate Certificate in Education PGCE (2007. After brief teaching at Hull College 2005-2017, Martin followed his passion to work in the community learning sector with disadvantaged communities in Myton Ward renamed Central Ward (Hull) 2006. He has contributed immensely in uplifting education standards of marginalised groups and he has to date continued to create engaging spaces for the deprived communities to learn new skills that provides a cohesive environment for people to live together, share, interact and converse. He has helped to strengthen the fabric of the Hull local communities, through introducing new programmes. Martin with others pioneers the Hull Black History Month Partnership and was its Chairman (2010 to 2015. The now famous Hull International Carnival is his brain child which is enabling local people making make new connections through Arts and Culture. Martin forte is developing education and reaching disadvantaged people and giving them a second chance, language courses, basic ICT training, Job Search, Interview skills and Employability Skills – Back to Work services and social Integration activities. He is a trained Information Advice and Guidance (1AG) & is an Employability Skills Tutor. Martin works part -time in Schools and Academies in Leeds – (14-19) years olds in Social Emotional Mental Health(SEMH) Setting. Martin has experience in engaging people in education in deprived areas surrounded with highest density of houses where no one can speak English, and delivers projects in Arts and Culture and Healthy living activities that supports social and cultural renewal. Martin is now on a flexible University of Arts, London, Central Saint Martin’s, Master of Arts and Cultural Enterprise 2019-2024 and has recently trained as a Arts Awards Advisor to encourage Young people participate in arts activities and improve their employability in the Creative Sector.
